<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQTxFdrps8qFDCCazsX51rw3bp1nNeMpZqPcoq7XYBVOY-Ed2nh1w3OLn-K8_KHMDPf14GNjO14N4PVVXJ2didQBbSmG0oj2azSNGJI_ZJilAp_Qm7Qkrh0bcU_9fKbc8pvkUNHTeWcgfi/s1600/shelves.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQTxFdrps8qFDCCazsX51rw3bp1nNeMpZqPcoq7XYBVOY-Ed2nh1w3OLn-K8_KHMDPf14GNjO14N4PVVXJ2didQBbSmG0oj2azSNGJI_ZJilAp_Qm7Qkrh0bcU_9fKbc8pvkUNHTeWcgfi/s1600/shelves.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Once I'd built the boxes out of plywood and painted them all, I decided they looked a bit cheap and nasty and it wasn't the look I was going for! The boxes ended up languishing in the cellar, while I went on the build <a href="http://life-at-4c.blogspot.de/2012/05/shelf.html" target="_blank">this</a> shelving instead:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDpsw0Au65pVcAT8gXpEpZWy6D6XgBeIXO_WsMTk8HKhc3gFPySFWdw1qBBlKOBesFnicy2GZ3Ap4ToG-P8YaUm8Mc3Cg8WMbHHE4z2LFmrssrlNQUS7pelu-coC-O0z5Hd2h5kEFUwjWO/s1600/IMG_5285.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDpsw0Au65pVcAT8gXpEpZWy6D6XgBeIXO_WsMTk8HKhc3gFPySFWdw1qBBlKOBesFnicy2GZ3Ap4ToG-P8YaUm8Mc3Cg8WMbHHE4z2LFmrssrlNQUS7pelu-coC-O0z5Hd2h5kEFUwjWO/s1600/IMG_5285.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>

<br />
I recently decided that I needed a washing sorter in the cellar, as I had just been throwing piles of dirty clothes on the floor (whites, colours and sports stuff) until the pile was big enough for a load and then they got bunged in the washing machine!<br />
My thrifty self decided to take apart all the boxes that I had made and repurpose them into one big box with an open front and shelf brackets for holding 3 washing baskets.<br />
This actually took quite a lot of time and next time I'd just pay the money for new wood!<br />
Anyway, aren't things always easier in hind sight?!<br />
So, I took all the boxes apart, made my measurements for the washing sorter to fit 3 washing baskets and then played a bit of Tetris trying to fit the pieces of wood I had into the shapes needed for the 5 pieces of wood needed for my washing sorter.<br />
I then cut some pieces to size and fitted them all together using wood glue and screws.<br />
I then attached the sides, top, bottom and back of my sorter together, spent an ages filling in all the holes and sanding it down and painting it!<br />
I used scraps of wood and screwed them directly to the sides of the box to act as gliders for the washing baskets to rest on.<br />
Not bad for a free project but a bit too time consuming for my liking!<br />

I cut the top to size and decided to make a tulip hem dress instead of one that was just gathered at the top.<br />
For this, I cut my material double the circumference of the waist and then folded the material in half and cut off an arc at the bottom of the skirt through both bits of material. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglBv4sPdFkzCLGhmCUJzYjcIhlTdJytoRHAyfQDFKBnXbUleJSwZnhe_zOlb-_axS3NO1541Ao_41VKOEnGi97Zk3P-S8NN2GGsUFU_sCuYIzs2UpSD9lYPrFZnhsfogDSMp6UIXbgFRJf/s1600/DSC_2482.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglBv4sPdFkzCLGhmCUJzYjcIhlTdJytoRHAyfQDFKBnXbUleJSwZnhe_zOlb-_axS3NO1541Ao_41VKOEnGi97Zk3P-S8NN2GGsUFU_sCuYIzs2UpSD9lYPrFZnhsfogDSMp6UIXbgFRJf/s1600/DSC_2482.JPG" height="358" width="640" /></a></div>
I then pinned on some ric rac all down the side of the skit matial and the bottom (everywhere but the waistband section.<br />To do this, I pinned it on the right sid of the material, then folded the material to the inside to make a hem, so that only the bottom wavy bit showed on the right side of the dress.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaabYh3d2TpdQl257AV8dCl3rkpC5OYH_OQ987r23Yc4zIbZPfXpSD3F8pHlpBhY8IwXGhQgIcbbvfb7V-h1RRTf9nCHaM4xbVTuLktwzh7OcaOSmnM4xm0umDEBm3wIG5UFmFAspBwN5N/s1600/DSC_2483.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaabYh3d2TpdQl257AV8dCl3rkpC5OYH_OQ987r23Yc4zIbZPfXpSD3F8pHlpBhY8IwXGhQgIcbbvfb7V-h1RRTf9nCHaM4xbVTuLktwzh7OcaOSmnM4xm0umDEBm3wIG5UFmFAspBwN5N/s1600/DSC_2483.JPG" height="358" width="640" /></a></div>
I then sewed along the bottom of the skirt making sure to catch both the material and the ric rac.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHUu0jB1HbH1tdDzBWU6Vwb7Ds0u4eGhBhrGDyKnsWNVAOea4SiduD84f4PSU-IN_4VtHzW8LYB2WxAV4l2cwpHKTTCZ0hvEAaZz6wkgoYb98FzGUmHdSKxa5Y1zPs1AxgxW0axgIGKVV5/s1600/DSC_2485.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHUu0jB1HbH1tdDzBWU6Vwb7Ds0u4eGhBhrGDyKnsWNVAOea4SiduD84f4PSU-IN_4VtHzW8LYB2WxAV4l2cwpHKTTCZ0hvEAaZz6wkgoYb98FzGUmHdSKxa5Y1zPs1AxgxW0axgIGKVV5/s1600/DSC_2485.JPG" height="358" width="640" /></a></div>

<br />
I then changed my sewing machine setting to the loosest stich setting
and sewed a row across the width of the skirt material at the top where
the t-shirt will be attached leaving a long thread at the beginning and
end so I had lots of space for size adjustment. <br />
I then gathered the skirt from one side, gradually moving the bunching
material along until I had gathered the skirt to be the same length as
the t-shirt opening.<br />
I then attached the skirt and top together by stitching round with right sides facing, making sure that the tulip part of the dress would be at the front of the dress to one side. <br />

I searched high and low for black and white stripes!). I stiched the letters on by hand and it took quite a while to do, but I loved it!<br />

When I was in H&M and saw they had black and white tops, I jumped at the chance to make a new one. E is now getting on to 2 year's old, so obviously needed something a bit more appropriate written on her top. I decided to go with her date of birth so that it looked like an inmate's number.<br />
I cut a small square of black material, programmed in my sewing machine to sew the numbers and then pressed "go"!! I attached the material with interface on the back and ironed it to the top. I then stitched around the edges in a white thread so that it would pop a bit.<br />
I give you prisoner number 280513:<br />

<br />
<u>Eggs</u><br />
I cut out 2 circles from white felt and 1 smaller circle from yellow felt. I used my sewing machine to sew the yellow circle onto one of the white circles. I then stuffed a bit of cotton wool inbetween the two white circles and sewed them together one of top of each other.<br />
I bought some plastic eggs that open from ebay so that E can crack her own eggs and fry them up in her frying pan!<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<u>Tea Bags</u><br />
I cut out 2 tea bag shapes from white felt and sewed them together one on top of another leaving the top section open. I then filled the bag with green tea, slipped a length of ribbon in the top and then sewed it closed. I also cut 2 little squares in various different colours for the tags and sewed them together, enclosing the other end of the ribbon inside.<br />
I made a simpe felt box for holding the teabags by cutting out a quick square box shape and then sewing all the edges shut.<br />
They go perfectly with E's singing teapot and cups!<br />

I chose to make mine with a fine black cord and some stretch jersey purple material with white stars the same material I used to make <a href="http://life-at-4c.blogspot.de/2015/01/repurposing-t-shirt-into-dress.html" target="_blank">E's dress</a>).<br />
Here are the material pieces ready and waiting:<br />
4 legs (2 left/2 right) length 40cm, width top 17cm, crotch 21cm,bottom 14cm<br />
2 ankle cuffs 27x17cm<br />
1 waistband 43x17cm<br />
4 pockets top 8cm, side 13cm, formed into 2 arcs<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDK5Wr75daJUuN1cVJj-NV7sG8-OM5zladUctM-x29QuFLJXOUBvHZk4rjjki5pw8_zIyCPO5VPf1A_FK6FiPhbvkXWuUDzMQwO06mVWE83QwG52s_NAAPO36Ip_WTOPvbOLtoRH7-xTah/s1600/IMG_1166.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDK5Wr75daJUuN1cVJj-NV7sG8-OM5zladUctM-x29QuFLJXOUBvHZk4rjjki5pw8_zIyCPO5VPf1A_FK6FiPhbvkXWuUDzMQwO06mVWE83QwG52s_NAAPO36Ip_WTOPvbOLtoRH7-xTah/s1600/IMG_1166.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
Pin the pockets right sides together, then sew the top and bottom arcs using a stretch stich and stretch needle. Turn right way out.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5Rbje95MglCVUScxySYkq1HlBseRuyTB-KB-84NI-qfr05TY80vpK3Wpi3f6F2CARLgdMJO3v9r9XdHpzsfPLECYwRXJom61ER3U8_dEEwmyAZVXKFzrxyVCKnyLAU5Ce9v7RwbZr82_l/s1600/IMG_1168.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5Rbje95MglCVUScxySYkq1HlBseRuyTB-KB-84NI-qfr05TY80vpK3Wpi3f6F2CARLgdMJO3v9r9XdHpzsfPLECYwRXJom61ER3U8_dEEwmyAZVXKFzrxyVCKnyLAU5Ce9v7RwbZr82_l/s1600/IMG_1168.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTot9GXUp4DPsk4j2eCn6bpn4BptEyoA0-Q988t2QnWm5ann4m4d3x6Hm7ZG8rD90-DyxoYx2FSydGyLm3ZU7ael1B3w0W48ZaOeJsuf7yeibfkv_FpEh1oXJyFGTeZPp98Lgxlsiq839b/s1600/IMG_1169.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTot9GXUp4DPsk4j2eCn6bpn4BptEyoA0-Q988t2QnWm5ann4m4d3x6Hm7ZG8rD90-DyxoYx2FSydGyLm3ZU7ael1B3w0W48ZaOeJsuf7yeibfkv_FpEh1oXJyFGTeZPp98Lgxlsiq839b/s1600/IMG_1169.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
Then pin trouser legs right side together and sew down the outside leg.<br />
Open out the trouser sections and pin the pocket on and sew along the longest outside arc.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTDVmyFh3ADwvKqwsRBj1azc7tsZV7iVGMncQ8RImO_mi2XfjOmNkAeKJdw7_RBPEQN1sKVOXg4Slu3TpcGhXpaQEsv0pSNnco_hLl9IX9lrUN44TVN4YERT6D2D0FASKLPgGRS9RiPdC1/s1600/IMG_1170.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTDVmyFh3ADwvKqwsRBj1azc7tsZV7iVGMncQ8RImO_mi2XfjOmNkAeKJdw7_RBPEQN1sKVOXg4Slu3TpcGhXpaQEsv0pSNnco_hLl9IX9lrUN44TVN4YERT6D2D0FASKLPgGRS9RiPdC1/s1600/IMG_1170.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Then pin the trouser sections together at where will be the front and back down to the crotch and sew together.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhau8BYWOSkdn8aLUx93reeUz0x1yuHfdh0ZyEAmA52S1exE93q7kTSnbuBVGmIg0hMxSEr2EuPN6bU6lRyxcQZbAOksOk8dVMSGgEWpUE3END0GPT6p4nkURezNNEQMjuGWzTlzHhhcNbt/s1600/IMG_1171.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhau8BYWOSkdn8aLUx93reeUz0x1yuHfdh0ZyEAmA52S1exE93q7kTSnbuBVGmIg0hMxSEr2EuPN6bU6lRyxcQZbAOksOk8dVMSGgEWpUE3END0GPT6p4nkURezNNEQMjuGWzTlzHhhcNbt/s1600/IMG_1171.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
Pull the trousers sections so they are still right sides together, but look like a pair of trousers lying flat. Then pin the inside leg and sew it all together in one go.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfxDty0snzUzbWMshnP0zEQq9xYyyJEqENe5VPvbgHWuKmFxjTWU4NzHXAMMKFb-D8a36N_eUbKnYhcJBHGB2NbE-0co1Vqqe5nx0XRbMdHJg2spXhdJKQY0GhtWv3SGLBum5lvs5HB12w/s1600/IMG_1172.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfxDty0snzUzbWMshnP0zEQq9xYyyJEqENe5VPvbgHWuKmFxjTWU4NzHXAMMKFb-D8a36N_eUbKnYhcJBHGB2NbE-0co1Vqqe5nx0XRbMdHJg2spXhdJKQY0GhtWv3SGLBum5lvs5HB12w/s1600/IMG_1172.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
Turn them the right way round and they are starting to look like a pair of trousers!<br />
Fold the ankle cuff lengthways and sew along the longest open side. Then fold the material into itself so that you form a little cuff that has 2 folded sides at the top and 4 open sides at the bottom.<br />
Now slip this onto the trousers and pin at the opening and sew together.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg50R1bpLb7-5a_6dDzWbcAN0lwkYC_Ew0ZAiZ9iycfF4tAeBWN_CzoXAEt0AtG2-S5WD0_RO9pnF1BgRq5GaHALkdlDI5pH3PrVksVrM2FjE5UaNMu_rfDT_nKupgpRAyQyGaRFcvNbTxn/s1600/IMG_1173.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg50R1bpLb7-5a_6dDzWbcAN0lwkYC_Ew0ZAiZ9iycfF4tAeBWN_CzoXAEt0AtG2-S5WD0_RO9pnF1BgRq5GaHALkdlDI5pH3PrVksVrM2FjE5UaNMu_rfDT_nKupgpRAyQyGaRFcvNbTxn/s1600/IMG_1173.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgIAIOOivYu6f33mqpc0euMixISDd6aXF10EvU_FQx2-V8Em4VZgCGUsSqrMi5VHl-jWT5DXpc0PaCFrS0IkrJ0E5auRXwgZ9d06GdWpaB8E-5DMDx5jtunyPeNDjZpmywnWiAZc0SCJEC/s1600/IMG_1174.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgIAIOOivYu6f33mqpc0euMixISDd6aXF10EvU_FQx2-V8Em4VZgCGUsSqrMi5VHl-jWT5DXpc0PaCFrS0IkrJ0E5auRXwgZ9d06GdWpaB8E-5DMDx5jtunyPeNDjZpmywnWiAZc0SCJEC/s1600/IMG_1174.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
Flip them down and you now have your ankle cuffs done.<br />
Do the same for the waistband, except make sure you fold the material in half widthways instead, join together and then pin to the top of the trousers and sew. Then just fold it back the right way when you're finished.<br />
There you have it ... a simple pair of trousers! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0mO7kWSy2tOvK39YxBAyiafoqWQHwhKWE_hDKD2IYVSGHFLHcNEEXkyWSsOXpt5dcHJLNpd5Xm8N40BFbCAuav-puoGCTbqdz_OROEOCQsvVQltJNhqA0bHMfX1Kq8EWOpq4W9VMQbHKb/s1600/IMG_1176.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0mO7kWSy2tOvK39YxBAyiafoqWQHwhKWE_hDKD2IYVSGHFLHcNEEXkyWSsOXpt5dcHJLNpd5Xm8N40BFbCAuav-puoGCTbqdz_OROEOCQsvVQltJNhqA0bHMfX1Kq8EWOpq4W9VMQbHKb/s1600/IMG_1176.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
And here's my model who won't stay still modelling them!<br />

Well, I decided to take that t-shirt, cut it up and make it into a dress.<br />
<br />
I cut the t-shirt to the length I wanted it (leaving an extra couple of cms for the hem).<br />
I then measured the width of the opening at the bottom of the t-hirt where I had just cut and multiplied that by 2. This then gave me the width of the fabric for the skirt section. I wanted the skirt to finish below the knee so there's growing room, so I also measured that length.<br />
<br />
Measurements for Ella (19 months old):<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsjppWlB0EgcBfDsIgHQd6iLrzGw8SA_dyEDoKjZSNmAqo0Rj09DBAAOlHHGlhDhh3Xyf_sVw7TljJi6QnJUCYXDQbY6rI7cPEogRUpVeuksJ4XnmAP-aGVGfiPqlj0DhBXQHt1p_zZOu4/s1600/Dress+Measurements.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsjppWlB0EgcBfDsIgHQd6iLrzGw8SA_dyEDoKjZSNmAqo0Rj09DBAAOlHHGlhDhh3Xyf_sVw7TljJi6QnJUCYXDQbY6rI7cPEogRUpVeuksJ4XnmAP-aGVGfiPqlj0DhBXQHt1p_zZOu4/s1600/Dress+Measurements.PNG" height="640" width="550" /></a></div>
I then changed my sewing machine setting to the loosest stich setting and sewed a row across the width of the skirt material at the top where the t-shirt will be attached leaving a long thread at the beginning and end so I had lots of space for size adjustment. <br />
I then gathered the skirt from one side, gradually moving the bunching material along until I had gathered the skirt to be the same length as the t-shirt opening.<br />
I changed my sewing machine back to the normal setting and sewed a row of stitching just below the gathers to set them in place.<br />
I then attached the two width pieces of skirt right sides together and joined them using zigzag stictch to close the skirt.<br />
I then cut the material so there was only 1cm hem at the top and matched the t-shirt to the skirt, pinning it so it lined up together.<br />
I then sewed zigzag stich to join the two pieces of material.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMEjB6iPCPPGfjnliI7oWM2-vPLEylNaOSRk-SAJa5PofC5H-S_ANZDPSypPyl6dd3W81bYvnqVENYafdgWdf9A_Fx2kUEf3xxWhY-3_QEE5HQDmyp0fbcrhtqASQNlBz39CeUpNTx7coY/s1600/IMG_1158.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMEjB6iPCPPGfjnliI7oWM2-vPLEylNaOSRk-SAJa5PofC5H-S_ANZDPSypPyl6dd3W81bYvnqVENYafdgWdf9A_Fx2kUEf3xxWhY-3_QEE5HQDmyp0fbcrhtqASQNlBz39CeUpNTx7coY/s1600/IMG_1158.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a><br />
I then folded the hem up and folded that over again and then used a double needle to sew a quick hem around the bottom.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXW7edU7uUf-rB-bt-p6H6Ealne-RWW3ZpXy6t-qOKL3ANo0-SBNtie_EijS0pWpAXVlJJJF0wREJiQtuS0nVV3SYDKvDc9UJ5le0U0PUyywnhGoSnXVHL3rFZMwaP65l0y0WXzIM2BTI-/s1600/IMG_1157.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXW7edU7uUf-rB-bt-p6H6Ealne-RWW3ZpXy6t-qOKL3ANo0-SBNtie_EijS0pWpAXVlJJJF0wREJiQtuS0nVV3SYDKvDc9UJ5le0U0PUyywnhGoSnXVHL3rFZMwaP65l0y0WXzIM2BTI-/s1600/IMG_1157.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a> <br />
The belt was made by cutting out a rectangle twice the length of the width of the skirt and 12cm wide. I folded the material lengthways and sewed down one width side and one length side. I then turned the material out the right way and sewed the final width side closed.<br />
I attached the belt by sewing a line all along the top and bottom of the belt but stopped at the sides so that it's only attached to the front of the dress.<br />

They have the Ikea one at her nursery school and she loves it.<br />
I took the measurements from the Ikea kitchen and reworked it so that one of our spare shelves from our oven would fit in her oven and made it no wider than the little bit of wall separating our kitchen and living room, so it would fit nicely in the corner and not get in the way.<br />
I made my design using sketchup.<br />
It's hard to say how long the actual project took as I did it before I started back at work but when E had just started nursery. They have a good system here where they break them in gently by going for half an hour one day, an hour the next etc. and then slowly building up to staying for lunch and then for nap time. This meant that I had various half an hour slots in the morning to have a quick tinker in the kitchen and just slowly worked on it over time.<br />
I built the main kitchen using spruce wood. The units are painted white and the worktop is stained chestnut and then nicely buffed so it's super smooth to touch.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDt2k25AylMjpw225XzRWLHjq7s6k1E351irxSbSYPo4oCgt0vc9TRSVsNuO5300Gvkv_zWuTmB4jRvsE_eks3-tuFtZOeAvCfx9xfSmoSlUUliVnKamXdHYZlWr2qC57Ump8-lCrwnqTF/s1600/IMG_1126.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDt2k25AylMjpw225XzRWLHjq7s6k1E351irxSbSYPo4oCgt0vc9TRSVsNuO5300Gvkv_zWuTmB4jRvsE_eks3-tuFtZOeAvCfx9xfSmoSlUUliVnKamXdHYZlWr2qC57Ump8-lCrwnqTF/s1600/IMG_1126.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The tap is made out of 3 pieces of spare wood I had that are all loosely screwed together so you can still twizzle it round in all directions.<br />
<br />
Added extras:<br />
<br />
Kitchen mixing bowl for the sink<br />
Door knobs for the taps and for the oven knobs (all attached loosely so they spin around)<br />
Cork coasters painted black for the hob<br />
Door handles left over from our kitchen for the cupboard and oven handle<br />
Grill shelf from our oven<br />
Battery LED light that turns on when you push it for the oven <br />
Perspex for the oven window with a balsawood frame on the inside to protect it<br />
Hinges painted black for both doors<br />
Opening hinges for the oven door so it doesn't bang directly on the floor (These need to withstand a lot of wear and tear and E loves to lie on the door and generally mishandle it!)<br />
Hook rack that I had lying about and some S hooks <br />
Magnetic paint for one side<br />
Chalkboard paint for the side and the cupboard door<br />
<br />
E was ill with bronchitis and a fever over Christmas so it wasn't the lovely look of surprise I was hoping for when she saw her new kitchen... in fact, she didn't want to open any presents at all! Since then though, she has played with her kitchen every day so far and loves baking her cakes and making a cup of tea. The only thing missing for her is that no real water comes out of the tap!<br />
<br />
Here are some snaps of the work in progress... <br />

I used purple fleece for one side and a nice green cotton material with foxes on for the other side.<br />
I started by using my daughter's head as a starting point (she's 6 months older but they're about the same size)! I measured the circumference of her head and the height that I wanted the hat. The hat is essentially just 6 pieces of material (2 hats consisting of 3 pieces).<br />
I started with the dome cap section of the hat. I cut out a rectangle the circumferance of E's head 48cm and 12cm for the height of the hat, folded it concertina style into 4 bits and then snipped off the top bits so they looked like curved triangles but were still connected together.<br />
I then cut a band the same length but 5cm height and then the ear flap section was 3cm ear flaps that were 4cm deep.<br />
I measured E's forehead (10cm) and made sure the middle section of the band was that length before I freehanded the ear covers.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCFVrzkDQ0b2sjpXQi2gCUdkXEJO6MspxsmW9t7yjoFujroNZvCUNvS1_ic0eNgrSiEtVyjHkCbZcVhg3Zt3nql9JiC9u1nCh3P48SUC7rQvy3eOPJJmH4UvrM7Tiw8wxKXh0Q8vojj8Ln/s1600/DSC_2262%5B1%5D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCFVrzkDQ0b2sjpXQi2gCUdkXEJO6MspxsmW9t7yjoFujroNZvCUNvS1_ic0eNgrSiEtVyjHkCbZcVhg3Zt3nql9JiC9u1nCh3P48SUC7rQvy3eOPJJmH4UvrM7Tiw8wxKXh0Q8vojj8Ln/s1600/DSC_2262%5B1%5D.JPG" height="358" width="640" /></a></div>
I then started with the domed section. Right sides together, I stitched the adjoing sides to make an inside out hat.<br />
I then sewed the band to this dome, right sides together. Then I sewed the ear cover section to the band.<br />
I did the same with the fleece material, so essentially had two hats.<br />
I then slipped one hat inside the other with wrong sides facing, pinned the ears sections together turning in a little seam as I went. I then sewed carefull round the whole bottom edge making sure my seam was close enough to the edge to catch the two folded in materials.<br />
I decided I wanted a chin tie with the hat too, so I cut a piece of fleece (20 x 5 cm), then cut it into 3 tails almost the whole length and then plaited the fleece strands together and tied a simple knot at the bottom with a couple of cms of fleece left at the bottom.<br />
When I got to the ear flap section I was sewing shut, I simply slipped the fleece plait inside and sewed it shut.<br />
<br />
For the blanket, I cut two pieces of material (1x1m), put right sides together and sewed it almost shut, apart from a little 5 cm gap. I then turned the material the right way and invisible stitch sewed up the gamp. To keep everything in place, I then sewed a seam around the entire edge of the blanket.<br />
Here's some photos of the hat, the blanket and E modelling the hat!<br />

<br />
I cut out 2 pieces of material for the jelly fish body, turned them right sides facing, sewed round the shapes leaving the bottom section open. I then turned it the right way out.<br />
<br />
I inserted a piece of thicker material in the middle so that the outer material won't go baggy like it did a bit with the elephant top I did. You can use anything really. I used a bit of old Ikea blind that we've got left over!<br />
<br />
I then got 2 coordinating colours of ribbon, folded them in half and tucked them into the open body of the jelly fish. I then sewed round the entire body and sewed on some buttons for the eyes.<br />
<br />
Ella likes to play with the buttons and the dangly legs!<br />

Sorry for the sporadic positing, but then I don't have a lot of time with a 7 month old baby on my hands!!<br />
<br />
I made this body for Ella using my new sewing machine that my mum bought me for Christmas ... thanks mummy!!<br />
<br />
I basically free-handed an elephant onto a scrap piece of fabric that I had lying around and then sewed it to a body that I'd already bought. I used a simple single stitch to stitch it into place first and then I used an appliqué stitch over the top of that. I then sewed on a button as the eye.<br />
<br />
Here's my beautifu Ella modelling it!<br />

Haven't been posting for a while as I've been busy looking after little monkeys called Ella! She's 5 months old now. Can't believe how quickly the time has gone.<br />
I had her nursery finished weeks before she was born but she doesn't even sleep in there yet.<br />
<br />
I originally wanted to go with grey and yellow as a colour scheme as I was still half convinced that the doctors would have made a mistake and our 100% girl would turn out to be a bouncing boy! I didn't want to be one of those poor mothers who had to sell their story to the newspaper to try and make some money back on all the wasted pink stuff they had bought!<br />
Here is my moodboard for that colour scheme:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgk3O0TLBZ0WjMSeEyLehJjX5Asa974oMfEXuh-1qSPjApaankwLU6xOcupG2VkUZzPoygogKdPssTUCt1dluclfmEmPH34IzFgjDkdcjXWkRE-H7mnubpcioVjaVgBGCQm4DoCJFxRHg51/s1600/Unbenannt.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgk3O0TLBZ0WjMSeEyLehJjX5Asa974oMfEXuh-1qSPjApaankwLU6xOcupG2VkUZzPoygogKdPssTUCt1dluclfmEmPH34IzFgjDkdcjXWkRE-H7mnubpcioVjaVgBGCQm4DoCJFxRHg51/s640/Unbenannt.png" width="466" /></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When we got to the paint shop G had a panic that the grey looked too much like cement and a bit depressing for a baby's room, so we decided to go with a lilac colour instead.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I painted two walls lilac and we did a feature wall of owl and bird wallpaper.</div>

<br />
I saw a similar canvas behind Heston Blumenthal on one of his programmes and decided to steal the idea. I chose a nice font off Word, painted the canvas yellow, traced on the letters and then painted them on in black.<br />
<br />
I sealed it with a protective covering so that it can hang in the kitchen and not be bothered by the moisture, but ... depending on where he wants a quote like this ... he could also hang it in the bedroom ;-)<br />
<br />

<br />
Bought a cheap plain white maternity t-shirt and used material, thread and fabric paint that I had on hand.<br />
<br />
First of all I sketched the design of my oven on paper to check I liked it, then I drew it on the t-shirt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFwAE9301PNZIkzGKqhkHMo5NVipxKR54GNf3ZiGqsKrgTCMwQKVUnAoX59GLLZIlyo50n6N5GQJ-_6eUFaoOCsrLuWq43RZFZsyr2r-axXHYpZBgurcnwBxN_B8rWztwMXFCL8yAtiI3l/s1600/IMG_5843.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFwAE9301PNZIkzGKqhkHMo5NVipxKR54GNf3ZiGqsKrgTCMwQKVUnAoX59GLLZIlyo50n6N5GQJ-_6eUFaoOCsrLuWq43RZFZsyr2r-axXHYpZBgurcnwBxN_B8rWztwMXFCL8yAtiI3l/s640/IMG_5843.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I then used black fabric paint to paint it on and then washed and sealed it according to the instructions on the label.<br />
<br />
For the bun I went for a cupcake design, as ... well, I don't know ... I thought it would just look better, OK?<br />
<br />
I cut out my cupcake case with som blue material I had leftover and the pink icing topping was also from scraps. I then sewed them directly onto the t-shirt and there you have it ... my very own bun in the oven! Just need to get a bit more of a bump!<br />
<br />

This was quite tricky as it couldn't be anything too heavy or fragile as I had to send it in the post to good old England!<br />
<br />
I decided to go for a framed chalkboard to hang in the kitchen to put a shopping list on or something.<br />
<br />
I had some nice border wood that I mitred into a frame and just glued it together and clamped the edges until they dried.<br />
<br />
I then cut out a piece of plywood to size and painted it with chalkboard paint.<br />
<br />
I painted the frame blue to match her kitchen colour and sealed it with a top coat as it will be in the kitchen that might get splashed with water.<br />
<br />
I hammered the plywood into the frame and then added a pretty ribbon onto the back for hanging it from a hook.<br />
<br />
Hope she likes it!<br />

Have put some of that free time to use and painted one wall in our bedroom.<br />
Everywhere else in the house has white walls (apart from the <a href="http://life-at-4c.blogspot.de/2012/05/shelf.html" target="_blank">office</a> and <a href="http://life-at-4c.blogspot.de/2012/01/stencil-wallpaper.html" target="_blank">downstairs bathroom</a>), so it was nice to get a bit of colour flowing!<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4YtoD0uqUZ5XdJVhjl8c_HqIODCsVSHDLCHJY5zfmVA-6mOoqhCqyHR4Kr4mHA9e7EwjWWT5mHh4m71arVS3bnk3Fn4-WOfdPAgOMVSbE9267nelOKWt5yREQ_t56uD4skvXdSIg66PH9/s1600/IMG_5705.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4YtoD0uqUZ5XdJVhjl8c_HqIODCsVSHDLCHJY5zfmVA-6mOoqhCqyHR4Kr4mHA9e7EwjWWT5mHh4m71arVS3bnk3Fn4-WOfdPAgOMVSbE9267nelOKWt5yREQ_t56uD4skvXdSIg66PH9/s640/IMG_5705.JPG" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Here's the walls before I started painting</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I chose a colour called blackberry and painted the wall in a matt colour.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzwgUSX-zr8Lypg-UExZb_7JF4VT5h7eoasOXil282-e-WRiORO0a-BHsTSAtcUSTDASvnSwRYWEkkxr5MnttuyE7eQyfwxEECComOgMonyGC0zZf-RsND3vegxJr-Hc69RoKFemlzMYXn/s1600/IMG_5706.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzwgUSX-zr8Lypg-UExZb_7JF4VT5h7eoasOXil282-e-WRiORO0a-BHsTSAtcUSTDASvnSwRYWEkkxr5MnttuyE7eQyfwxEECComOgMonyGC0zZf-RsND3vegxJr-Hc69RoKFemlzMYXn/s640/IMG_5706.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I then bought a stencil of cherry blossom and stencilled in a repeat pattern along the whole of the wall in a slightly lighter blackberry colour in semi gloss. The trick was to use as little paint as possible on the roller.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifUWWZ7s_WiPmvyEIqMF7NE8n-fz72Cwl8eQodgsbkYajH8mOz4AvOU8lwumM4gL4g1iU7WFZbvs4FcfazwyYWVf4gUZMmxdZi1OTM0UEAP1syDWS9erTADkkQJXmP3Rkg-B3mQbMGsSov/s1600/IMG_5708.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifUWWZ7s_WiPmvyEIqMF7NE8n-fz72Cwl8eQodgsbkYajH8mOz4AvOU8lwumM4gL4g1iU7WFZbvs4FcfazwyYWVf4gUZMmxdZi1OTM0UEAP1syDWS9erTADkkQJXmP3Rkg-B3mQbMGsSov/s640/IMG_5708.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I then just used masking tape and started in the top lef-hand corner and worked along and down lining the stencil up as I went.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJcIqHz_FDfpjfwp8DD3PhRr_NAk3tqGywmUgkt24E1yOAgtY4Ka1TGGbngV1JXrhdBOCTaAv-3pORWRF9UmYCRy49Tz2gKp_97xAcD4NagY8MW_lgwauUZSYcIMzx3x_rxsrdXnwcpzFS/s1600/IMG_5714.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJcIqHz_FDfpjfwp8DD3PhRr_NAk3tqGywmUgkt24E1yOAgtY4Ka1TGGbngV1JXrhdBOCTaAv-3pORWRF9UmYCRy49Tz2gKp_97xAcD4NagY8MW_lgwauUZSYcIMzx3x_rxsrdXnwcpzFS/s640/IMG_5714.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCt7YGe83sjvmGGOPdkV1KS60rFFQl1jhNYKTHr2m2o-ZBebyATKnRfR4RLVwlr9bbiwEJcCEVnOZCDd9UFmJlA2xrE7gumVkV-1w3mw3f6POUceICbz0RJ7rnUuvNDN_ktANDjW5XPtVD/s1600/IMG_5716.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCt7YGe83sjvmGGOPdkV1KS60rFFQl1jhNYKTHr2m2o-ZBebyATKnRfR4RLVwlr9bbiwEJcCEVnOZCDd9UFmJlA2xrE7gumVkV-1w3mw3f6POUceICbz0RJ7rnUuvNDN_ktANDjW5XPtVD/s640/IMG_5716.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I love it! It gives off a really nice shimmery shine and is really nice and subtle but beuatiful. It also ties in really nicely to the blinds from Ikea which also have a sort of cherry blossom design on them.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIlGFTySV3AyGPnHGzNYLUSMQCTfLp5EKxo2UUQu5Tu8OQnltiVZTR__LRRbsT9eZq_ieyuox8p0NI63hEY1zPdLtYdXfNtCexHCCYRsrdlIuDoMWQmG6UdSFRQGG94UcNSn3nhJL-qmOZ/s1600/IMG_5730.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIlGFTySV3AyGPnHGzNYLUSMQCTfLp5EKxo2UUQu5Tu8OQnltiVZTR__LRRbsT9eZq_ieyuox8p0NI63hEY1zPdLtYdXfNtCexHCCYRsrdlIuDoMWQmG6UdSFRQGG94UcNSn3nhJL-qmOZ/s640/IMG_5730.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
We just need new bedcovers and I might even make some cushions with the cherry blossom stencil on too!<br />

<br />
I made it using all scrap pieces of wood, paint, hooks and a jam jar that I already had, so this is a free project - love it!<br />
<br />
I used one piece of wood as backing and cut out the corners with my jigsaw to give it a bit more of a fancy look.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS_f9YNCfWf_uqsZgYQyUM-lIh8iWZyh5AHD-ahp53dsf4UyJTh7MLx6VHj-eSXS6AjLBcUX2CFuXz02zvSqq8LSs-HGVFUBDd4dGBpVsvINlQlsUIDUW036qFgYfjqV2ZRwVTDQT84BOX/s1600/IMG_5658.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS_f9YNCfWf_uqsZgYQyUM-lIh8iWZyh5AHD-ahp53dsf4UyJTh7MLx6VHj-eSXS6AjLBcUX2CFuXz02zvSqq8LSs-HGVFUBDd4dGBpVsvINlQlsUIDUW036qFgYfjqV2ZRwVTDQT84BOX/s640/IMG_5658.JPG" width="640" /></a> <br />
<br />
I then screwed the shelf into it from the back. I added a bit of trim I had left over from another project so that the shelf has a lip to stop thing falling off it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUR1p9rS0HdKx8tUaBxQSaSoA6Si_0N_UvBn0k8-vkAm8O0nnP0JDbZDjCUTj7dEz_8D0HkLzb3lShMnuKQdr4Fv8D3bqRDDKp11xNVRmMDU2yHm5uylbnAJ0CYqEehEodXPnaXMwbO4aP/s1600/IMG_5661.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUR1p9rS0HdKx8tUaBxQSaSoA6Si_0N_UvBn0k8-vkAm8O0nnP0JDbZDjCUTj7dEz_8D0HkLzb3lShMnuKQdr4Fv8D3bqRDDKp11xNVRmMDU2yHm5uylbnAJ0CYqEehEodXPnaXMwbO4aP/s640/IMG_5661.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br />
The hooks are ones I already had at home and I painted them a gloss black.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQ51WlbWpCuzwYCT6zLISIOjcH-JEw3fEBkZ1IeR7Y08lWetxZDhYqUpx-p6zHkYLqFKcAP5GQLE6mh3Z8E5AlSngwenRHBcd_JVeTayBuObuTAm9S7byvvsrdKitYym-j8gcOdvlcn1bP/s1600/IMG_5655.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQ51WlbWpCuzwYCT6zLISIOjcH-JEw3fEBkZ1IeR7Y08lWetxZDhYqUpx-p6zHkYLqFKcAP5GQLE6mh3Z8E5AlSngwenRHBcd_JVeTayBuObuTAm9S7byvvsrdKitYym-j8gcOdvlcn1bP/s640/IMG_5655.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br />
The jam jar was also hanging around in the cellar, so I painted it with some glass paint and slotted it into the round holder I made out of scrap wood with my jigsaw. It can be easily taken out to add water, depending on what little flowers are there. At the moment I've just got some dried lavender from the garden.<br />
<br />
I painted the whole thing the same white as the <a href="http://life-at-4c.blogspot.de/2011/09/shoe-rack.html" target="_blank">shoe rack</a> that is also in the hallway, so it all ties in nicely.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj70r5kBBFxYsMtICKZfdI5-HmY7ZlSMAE4ZogPaglmUCcW-UvP-sTySLXNIhXINdfIf_fvfE9ZYNK95puOmrmKytwOZve-Pg1uIB4pqSZMxKt539Jy2vN4CcVTcrtT-Nb5na4v0IBUq12e/s1600/IMG_5664.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj70r5kBBFxYsMtICKZfdI5-HmY7ZlSMAE4ZogPaglmUCcW-UvP-sTySLXNIhXINdfIf_fvfE9ZYNK95puOmrmKytwOZve-Pg1uIB4pqSZMxKt539Jy2vN4CcVTcrtT-Nb5na4v0IBUq12e/s640/IMG_5664.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br />
Here it is hanging up in all its glory:<br />

<br />
This babygro is painted straight on in black fabric paint and is meant to look like a thumb print with "one of a kind" written underneath.<br />
<br />
Materials used:<br />
<br />
babygro<br />
black fabric paint<br />
thumb print stolen from Google images printed out to required size<br />
paintbrush<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgp_QeEsFHs6rlaioGYW1aXOld6KaxGTvFu_OEiRUUU9vXLcq7FDtniATPXq0yqRBIEtDafeocfyvjTMGMb25LID1xr15rJczstiml3hLx7R2CraZjOuAqmY2RMD_EuC-Xwxdxiosuc0oEk/s1600/IMG_5645.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgp_QeEsFHs6rlaioGYW1aXOld6KaxGTvFu_OEiRUUU9vXLcq7FDtniATPXq0yqRBIEtDafeocfyvjTMGMb25LID1xr15rJczstiml3hLx7R2CraZjOuAqmY2RMD_EuC-Xwxdxiosuc0oEk/s640/IMG_5645.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I slipped the printed image into the babygro and basically just painted over it ... simple as that!<br />
<br />
I then sealed the paint by covering the babygro in a tea towel and ironing over it and then washed it.<br />

So, instead of just putting some boring old money in an envelope, I decided to get my creative juices flowing!<br />
<br />
I googled "money origami" and decided on trying to fold some Euros into a bride, groom and heart.<br />
<br />
€10 wedding dress<br />
€10 heart<br />
€20 trousers<br />
€20 shirt and tie <br />
<br />
I followed the instructions I found <a href="http://www.homemade-gifts-made-easy.com/origami-dress.html" target="_blank">here</a> and this is what I came up with:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<br />
Supplies:<br />
<br />
<ul><li>Glass jar with swing-top lid (can get them at Ikea or any DIY store in the jam-making section near the gardening bits and bobs!)</li>
<li>Frosted glass spray (I got mine off ebay)</li>
<li>Glue</li>
<li>Solar lights for the garden</li>
</ul>First I disassembled the solar lights. They were on a cane to stick in the ground and I just unscrewed the top of the light.<br />
<br />
Tape off the top of the jar with masking tape and add newspaper so the paint won't go everywhere.<br />
<br />
Lightly spray the frosted glass in even layers into the jar directly.<br />
<br />
Glue the solar panel section to the inside of the lid (the lid has been left without frosted glass so it can charge up properly).<br />
<br />
Let it charge up in the sun and then enjoy it in the evening - easy peasey!<br />
<br />
It emits a really nice soft light that looks like you have a slice of moon trapped in your jar! Will have to make some for my garden too!<br />

<br />
This cupboard is the same design as the <a href="http://life-at-4c.blogspot.de/2012/06/cleaning-cupboard.html" target="_blank">cleaning cupboard</a> and <a href="http://life-at-4c.blogspot.de/2012/05/storage-cupboard.html" target="_blank">tools cupboard</a> but is full of pull out drawers made out of plywood. This now sorts out the madness that was all my screws, nails, fiddly little things etc. that were previously just thrown together in one heap.<br />
<br />
The drawers are made in the same way as the <a href="http://life-at-4c.blogspot.de/2012/03/plywood-boxes-for-shelving.html" target="_blank">boxes</a> I made for my craft shelf.<br />
I used 12mm plywood for the sides and 6mm for the bottom.<br />
All holes were predrilled, countersunk, screwed and the bottom is nailed and glued to the box.<br />
I cut a notch out of the front of the boxes using a jigsaw to make them easier to pull out.<br />
<br />
They are just on a really simple drawer slide that I made myself.<br />
I screwed pieces of wood to the sides of the cupboard and then rubbed a candle over the tops of them so the drawers would slide more easily.<br />
This mechanism is hidden by a piece of wood that is glued to the door frame and slides.<br />
I also added a bit of wood as a stopper to the back of the drawer so you don't pull it out too energetically and it comes crashing down on you! <br />
<br />
I finished the drawers by painting the fronts with chalkboard paint so that you can easily see what's where!<br />
<br />

This cupboard is to hold cleaning stuff, e.g. ironing board, hoover, bucket, mop ... that type of thing.<br />
<br />
The cupboard is very similar to the other one I've made, so won't bore you with the details of how I made this one!<br />
<br />
The differences are that this cupboard only has one shelf to hold the iron and will possibly be a storage area for cleaning products or something and it also has a normal hook on the side so the ironing board can hang clean off the bottom of the floor taking up as little room as possible.<br />
The door front is also different. I bought a ceiling medallion (or what ever they're called!) that is just polestyrene so is super light. I glued it to the middle of the door and then attached the door knob in the middle of it and painted everything the same colour - a nice purplish colour! I think it looks really nice with the white door knob.<br />
<br />
Sorry about the dire photo quality too - they were all taken in the cellar with no natural light! <br />
<br />

<br />
I started off with a t-shirt, black fabric paint, a paintbrush, a pen, thread and a pink ribbon<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQphsxm7me70tpPYap-k9m_IV-EWBbkE3W9fRDvDsmK-Ly4DbyvqlC9DOjBUY3AclO3pGS286wAbsSNngdKAID_7NUyD6esk-Wh2r4qOE40F-5vX8TlXShl6HIM2Weh7FtzNuoPxmrlYcm/s1600/IMG_5425.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQphsxm7me70tpPYap-k9m_IV-EWBbkE3W9fRDvDsmK-Ly4DbyvqlC9DOjBUY3AclO3pGS286wAbsSNngdKAID_7NUyD6esk-Wh2r4qOE40F-5vX8TlXShl6HIM2Weh7FtzNuoPxmrlYcm/s640/IMG_5425.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br />
I used the tip of the paintbrush dipped in the fabric paint to do the beads on the smaller necklace and the end of a pen for the bigger beads.<br />
<br />
I dipped the implements in the ink and stamped them on. I then ironed over them to seal them.<br />
<br />
To finish the t-shirt off, I sewed on a ribbon to give it a little pop of colour.<br />
<br />
I hope she likes it!<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The ribbon is just attached with a little bit of thread so it can be easily removed</td></tr>

<br />
I got a cheap onesie from H&M and had material left over from making my <a href="http://life-at-4c.blogspot.de/2012/05/cork-message-boards.html" target="_blank">cork message boards</a><br />
<br />
Here's how I did it:<br />
<br />
Draw out tie shape on slightly stiffer material to make it easier to sew the material onto the onesie (I used some left over material from our blinds upstairs)<br />
<br />
Cut out tie knot and tie pieces separately<br />
<br />
Cut material slightly larger than the pieces, fold it round the templates making nice sharp edges and glue it at the back<br />
<br />
Sew tie onto the onesie using lockstitch<br />
<br />
I used ribbon I had lying around (who am I kidding, it was neatly wrapped up in one of my <a href="http://life-at-4c.blogspot.de/2012/03/plywood-boxes-for-shelving.html" target="_blank">boxes</a> on my craft shelf!!) for making a pair of braces and sewed them directly onto the onesie leaving a little gap where I threaded on a metal washer and then carried on sewing so the ring is on the ribbon but can be turned round.<br />
<br />

<br />
I bought some white covered chipboard from my local DIY store as it was on offer for €9.99/m2 and I didn't need really good wood as it was only going to be a cupboard for storing tools in the cellar.<br />
<br />
I saw this <a href="http://ana-white.com/2011/12/plans/patrick039s-jelly-cupbard" target="_blank">plan for a cupboard</a> and basically adapted it to suit my needs.<br />
<br />
I used Sketchup to design my 2m high and 1.20m wide cupboard:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0FtJgHGtsrj3Iv8Bk31quCDK4maRhQGvaXvGfZt06F-8S2PmudjekPqxC2ZKGQBCKuVDpIJRDgrWaShnXy2TGMbAnebVXW6QDaW33Pjfb91wd0ToV70DoZRZz6FZFgQqdxF6Pt5EJG59D/s1600/2012-05-16_17h37_29.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0FtJgHGtsrj3Iv8Bk31quCDK4maRhQGvaXvGfZt06F-8S2PmudjekPqxC2ZKGQBCKuVDpIJRDgrWaShnXy2TGMbAnebVXW6QDaW33Pjfb91wd0ToV70DoZRZz6FZFgQqdxF6Pt5EJG59D/s640/2012-05-16_17h37_29.png" width="404" /></a> </div><br />
I got all my wood cut to size for free where I bought it and assembled it as follows:<br />
<br />
First, I marked equal points all down the inside of the cupboard sides and drilled shallow holes to fit metal shelf holders. This means that I can move my shelfs to be different heigts, depending on what I store.<br />
A good trick for this was the measure the depth of the metal holder and then mark the drill at this height with masking tape so you can't drill deeper than necessary.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtfJUYql3VvhRCUkdn9vto_D3Vs8oSLb9NmMNyIYe7YpuZoohBVFHDJTl_um-G07K39D_uT3771JHR7x5w6E9b4M9PcdZ_Ni_5LPZUb4m5Dqiym9-A2qhjFBl-YJh0vaeyGhg-I3i_Wgu4/s1600/IMG_5266.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtfJUYql3VvhRCUkdn9vto_D3Vs8oSLb9NmMNyIYe7YpuZoohBVFHDJTl_um-G07K39D_uT3771JHR7x5w6E9b4M9PcdZ_Ni_5LPZUb4m5Dqiym9-A2qhjFBl-YJh0vaeyGhg-I3i_Wgu4/s640/IMG_5266.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br />
I then built the shell of the cupboard by joining the sides to the top and bottom shelf using pockethole screws. I marked where I wanted the shelves, predrilled holes and glued and clamped the pieces together at the same time as screwing.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmj26No8ndDExGJQcQGOjOqNfoBXDx_LSztmyH9v6NhQIvOUIQJ5bIMfhvZfI0rB8vntZKDXZuR4Kt03uSqILfPuJ3M60ZIpDv7JEql-BQrxO9pZUJ-LfOusq1PfVG7TzA39chUb4dq_Dj/s1600/IMG_5264.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmj26No8ndDExGJQcQGOjOqNfoBXDx_LSztmyH9v6NhQIvOUIQJ5bIMfhvZfI0rB8vntZKDXZuR4Kt03uSqILfPuJ3M60ZIpDv7JEql-BQrxO9pZUJ-LfOusq1PfVG7TzA39chUb4dq_Dj/s640/IMG_5264.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br />
<br />
I used glue and nails to attach the 3mm mdf backing and used brown packing tape for the vertical cut I had to do to make sure it fit in the car.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOHXsgFGDcQF441E89gW3SFXo2HzlOEZtJb32_jesRn77UZXwGGqpVt0Fn8PAj3kuacLa74r4tDRfB4uFbIHUltwEfX4n_-PnsoRxrMAPeUWSgYwHvehu2WkCUu6Hyg7fu10RJbo_cwa0E/s1600/IMG_5267.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOHXsgFGDcQF441E89gW3SFXo2HzlOEZtJb32_jesRn77UZXwGGqpVt0Fn8PAj3kuacLa74r4tDRfB4uFbIHUltwEfX4n_-PnsoRxrMAPeUWSgYwHvehu2WkCUu6Hyg7fu10RJbo_cwa0E/s640/IMG_5267.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br />
I built the frame for the front of the door separately using pocket hole screws and then attached it to the shell of the cupboard with nails and glue.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5UqDp9ddIn0ZwfubWD2c-l30bWTzdtyF10jatxAi-9oGmx9nRuXFn2B7ZGo89ufIuJ_FQxjD0rKeDUjE_dC299X8-S_tLyVEOdM91Rzuwp0e1zV3eBs1155MpYyfUYf2mZXRD63Z3nqkN/s1600/IMG_5271.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5UqDp9ddIn0ZwfubWD2c-l30bWTzdtyF10jatxAi-9oGmx9nRuXFn2B7ZGo89ufIuJ_FQxjD0rKeDUjE_dC299X8-S_tLyVEOdM91Rzuwp0e1zV3eBs1155MpYyfUYf2mZXRD63Z3nqkN/s640/IMG_5271.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br />
<br />
I then built the doors separately by making a frame out of wood as the chipboard just didn't quite cut the mustard and then attaching the mdf backing.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKutVTwQRepFX6rWzPDBsUp-lagndGmwb3pXfD9oiaTfmhRuIF9Fh1jDq-NIWPbKzg45lxWVrVX9g-RvLydg-ZRy0kqQQTZIb78XD7N-K5xG7_4Z3HFjc7JbV8LHYEqzH2Pcx5Bk7ODSG4/s1600/IMG_5279.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKutVTwQRepFX6rWzPDBsUp-lagndGmwb3pXfD9oiaTfmhRuIF9Fh1jDq-NIWPbKzg45lxWVrVX9g-RvLydg-ZRy0kqQQTZIb78XD7N-K5xG7_4Z3HFjc7JbV8LHYEqzH2Pcx5Bk7ODSG4/s640/IMG_5279.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br />
The doors also have pegboard on the inside to hang up smaller tools with hooks. I put wood scraps behind the pegboard so it would have space behind it for the hooks and just drilled through the pegboard holes and into the wood scraps to keep it in place.<br />
<br />
I attached the doors with a 3mm gap between the doors and the frame using hinges that I had painted black. The handles are ones that I got from Ikea designed for the kitchen but I thought they would go well with my cupboard!<br />
<br />
The doors stay shut due to a magnetic door latch at the bottom.<br />
<br />
I then added a bit of detail moulding cut at 45° angles with my mitre saw and painted the whole thing white and ... there it is!<br />
<br />

<br />
I looked around for inspiration<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9R9UR9H3BKpbXVHyzf_DxqNBwBbB3gLRUYJAvaVXOGGDRf6S56KmWd04XVrE5hkZN7IMmuTStwyDIo65QCAZKrU5NNaLY0vGDpj-R8KzGXYkGSyMo_3oGqIKRQm15IWDhNFTSwtzpCxCk/s1600/Cubo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9R9UR9H3BKpbXVHyzf_DxqNBwBbB3gLRUYJAvaVXOGGDRf6S56KmWd04XVrE5hkZN7IMmuTStwyDIo65QCAZKrU5NNaLY0vGDpj-R8KzGXYkGSyMo_3oGqIKRQm15IWDhNFTSwtzpCxCk/s640/Cubo.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>I liked the idea of a box within a box but I wanted a design that snaked up the wall next to and over the desk.<br />
<br />
I saw <a href="http://ana-white.com/2010/12/the-5-shelf.html" target="_blank">this</a> plan on Ana White's website and decided to use the joining method but design my own shelf.<br />
<br />
I used SketchUp to come up with this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWKkYUdMByCM-JuWAXkniPsrJRvnVX3mM8Wu8ybsl8U96eLprZHQBNCmFL_k5IUdQ53qN1wSoLY5c9cz56BI3L0_3XYasAthpBpqIBadFWt3rQnY9zl10vrpThX1m8u2D6CyoWroVqDE_1/s1600/2012-04-03+08h43_50.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="468" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWKkYUdMByCM-JuWAXkniPsrJRvnVX3mM8Wu8ybsl8U96eLprZHQBNCmFL_k5IUdQ53qN1wSoLY5c9cz56BI3L0_3XYasAthpBpqIBadFWt3rQnY9zl10vrpThX1m8u2D6CyoWroVqDE_1/s640/2012-04-03+08h43_50.png" width="640" /></a></div><br />
I got my wood cut to size for free when I bought it so all I needed to do was mark the notches out of the pieces of wood<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFC6DTJmWOE0nHAWupau5cRejcRUqLTUY2RqxV1gfqKCayldlsoyuSeBgondYCz2xzyn9l5Et4pqpuyeshWeW7vTSKH061l6QbgEXNUV7FDEAa7kofRTJ-5geIv8C9MtEkH6GHERsEPTK2/s1600/013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFC6DTJmWOE0nHAWupau5cRejcRUqLTUY2RqxV1gfqKCayldlsoyuSeBgondYCz2xzyn9l5Et4pqpuyeshWeW7vTSKH061l6QbgEXNUV7FDEAa7kofRTJ-5geIv8C9MtEkH6GHERsEPTK2/s640/013.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br />
I then cut the notches out using my jigsaw, glued them together, checked for square and hunted out all the heavy things I owned to keep them in place until the wood had dried.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE53J4NWuGWlwhvLXpK1GWRYzmOQfo0gCJx8VVkz1ZOSmsnu9VdvxnJOnB1Ln917H6a5RBVbMI8JAyr5scGaAMurYwEm9ZLOeF4L6T2VJEhG_UkJztL0TUnCWQnMuyL0iu5wlzTr1BKhkZ/s1600/021.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE53J4NWuGWlwhvLXpK1GWRYzmOQfo0gCJx8VVkz1ZOSmsnu9VdvxnJOnB1Ln917H6a5RBVbMI8JAyr5scGaAMurYwEm9ZLOeF4L6T2VJEhG_UkJztL0TUnCWQnMuyL0iu5wlzTr1BKhkZ/s640/021.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br />
<br />
I then primed it and painted it a high gloss white like the desk.<br />
<br />
Each box is 40x40cm in size and 20cm deep, with a 5 cm end bit outside of the box. <br />
<br />
I then routed out mortises to fit some keyhole hangers I bought at the DIY shop. I also made a slightly deeper hole in the mortise to fit the screw head.<br />
These then sit flush in the shelf and are held up by screws attached to the wall. You feed the screw through the bigger hole of the keyhole hanger and it drops into place and is held tight in the narrower shaft.<br />
I have also put little plastic stoppers on that you can also see in the photo below to stop the shelf scratching the walls. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKa_vkczFAShQwr7OGubreJkORdoeOwcZnqdAMtgL60EbAKurQ_ZEGZqfs2QbHZ2lCYSqfC1wDdi3Wt1Ok6VVkahZmHbMz4YXWc470D3iDXSfe7pk49ioNzgJstQq3KuzZNNi4Gu7Aj45P/s1600/IMG_5282.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKa_vkczFAShQwr7OGubreJkORdoeOwcZnqdAMtgL60EbAKurQ_ZEGZqfs2QbHZ2lCYSqfC1wDdi3Wt1Ok6VVkahZmHbMz4YXWc470D3iDXSfe7pk49ioNzgJstQq3KuzZNNi4Gu7Aj45P/s640/IMG_5282.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br />
I was originally just going to attach these with L brackets but am so glad I made the effort to borrow a neighbour's router and attach it using keyhole hangers - I love a nice "floating" shelf!<br />
<br />
<br />
